I want to know why those names? I mean, tie my shoe? Is there a special reason for these name choices? I'd donate points for your panda. Let me know where to send my points.
Carla

Post 14 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Monday, 30-May-2005 17:57:55

Post 15 by Grace (I've now got the ggold prolific poster award! wahoo! well done to me!) on Monday, 30-May-2005 19:26:06

Post 20 by Resonant (Find me alive.) on Tuesday, 31-May-2005 1:20:00

Hmmm, should be spelled Thai Mai Shu. Also consider Won Hung Lho, or perhaps Sum Ting Wong. There's my cheap linguistic joke for the day.

How about a Panda with a taste for bondage Thai me up..

Post 23 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Tuesday, 31-May-2005 10:39:28

LIAM why dont you, instead of buying a panda, adopt 1 from the WWF.Right now for £2 a month, you can adopt your very own Panda and recieve updates on his/her life, and possibly save the animal's life. The WWWF urgently need people to sign up and adopt a Bengal Tiger, a Panda, and an Orang U Tan, to save these beautiful creatures from extinction. I am thinking of adopting a tiger as they are disappearing at a frightening rate...

Post 24 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Tuesday, 31-May-2005 13:02:44

A tiger would be cool.

Post 25 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 31-May-2005 19:06:37

yeah, until it ripps your heart out after digging its nice "claws and teeth into you?" wow LG. You make the tiger sound sooo cuddly and cute.

Post 29 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Wednesday, 01-Jun-2005 8:05:01

hehehehe sooo cute. you could get a baby one though. ya know, one that has never learned to dig its teeth and claws in, just be careful never to let it taste blood though, cause then the need to kill will return! grin

Post 30 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 01-Jun-2005 9:15:54

then go post in jbear's post more about the kity..... hmm I will start making a fund raiser to buy either cage, for the panda or the tigger..... hmm, oh wait, isn't there a panda for download?

Post 33 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Thursday, 02-Jun-2005 12:56:28

A cage! What's wrong with a huge plot of land say about 20 square miles...with plenty of bamboo...sambar, wild pig and chital deer, snow if it's a siberian tiger ,...and water if its bengali...somwhere for the animal to sleep...and plenty of interesting things to do besides pacing endlessly going out of its mind in abject boredom and frustration!....Sorry I just hate wild animals being stuck in cages..replace them with humans and set the wildlife free!

Post 34 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Thursday, 02-Jun-2005 13:16:06

agreed on so many levels there - there is something not quite right about wild animals being kept in cages. however, some of these animals are endangered and the only way we can save them, and also bring their plight to the attention of the generally ignorant public, is to keep them in zoos and similar such establishments. Personally I wish that zoos did not have to exist though ... the best zoo I ever went to was in Jersey .. if you've ever heard of Gerald Durrel - he founded the jersey wildlife trust and the zoo was started by him, it was one of the nicest zoos I've ever been to and Durrel is one of my all time favourite people.

Post 35 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Friday, 03-Jun-2005 1:32:52

some zoos are crap. like the lincoln park zoo. check out news.google.com and search for lincoln park zoo. it's fun

Post 36 by Star (Honorary Bitch of the Zone) on Friday, 03-Jun-2005 2:55:35

Liam you never told us why you want specifically a panda? I mean a Koala is cuddlier, a Tiger is sexier, and a Orang U Tan is the closest you can get in having a girlfriend, so why a panda??? LOL Star

Post 37 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Friday, 03-Jun-2005 8:11:50

hehehe why not

Post 38 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Friday, 03-Jun-2005 10:36:29

Gerald Durrell yes I recall your man standing watching a gorgeous Siberian Tiger been beaten into submission by a very brave and "knowledgeable" trainer, and what did GD do about this tragic situation, feck all! I know what I would have done! ...

Post 39 by Flidais (WISEST IS SHE WHO KNOWS THAT SHE DOES NOT KNOW) on Friday, 03-Jun-2005 22:00:04

I'd go for the tiger. They've got more spunk than a panda. And if you want to see a weird zoo go to Hawaii. They have a cow as one of the main attractions.

Post 40 by Resonant (Find me alive.) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 1:29:21

Ooh. I was just rereading Zoo in my Luggage the other day. That's the book all about collecting for, and setting-up, the Jersey zoo. Forgotten the name of the zoo, but there's some gorgeous stjories in there... Early conservational naturalism was such a tough one. There just wasn't the technology, knowledge or funding to look after his animals as well as he would have wanted to, but they did the best that they could, and look what's grown out of it!

Post 41 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 9:51:16

The best zoo is Howletts run by the son of John Aspinall who died of cancer a few years back..that zoo is exemplary the animals are, if anything, spoiled and looked after with more care, kindness, understanding and consideration, than the residents of many care homes....I really admire the work of John Aspinall and his son, their philosphy is simple. "The animals are not on show, they are not here to provide entertainment, they are here due to hunting, habit loss and persecution by people"

Post 42 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 12:20:35

yeah, sorry bout that. well even the little ones are vicious.

Post 43 by Resonant (Find me alive.) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 13:34:24

I'm not familiar with Howletts, but it sounds like what a modern zoo should be. The days of zoos being peoples' only opportunity to see exotic animals are long gone, so I think the keeping of them for entertainment is not only cruel, but obscelete. Oh, and to whoever it was who said a koala was a cuddlier alternative as a pet? Think again. They're vicious little buggers and not at all prone to domestication. As cute as anything.... from a distance.

Post 44 by Grace (I've now got the ggold prolific poster award! wahoo! well done to me!) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 14:48:40

I just happened to be surfing my tv a couple of nights ago and I came upon the Atlanta Zoo. Apprently the Chinese govt. and the zoo director had been working for 10 years in the hopes of bringing two giant pands from China to this U.S. zoo. An area, almost 2 acres in size was prepared in less than 9 months time when an o.k. was finally reached to house these two pandas. I beleive it was mentioned that there are only 15000 pandas left.... Though it is rare for pandas to breed in captivity it is the hope that this male and female panda will come to produce offspring. Also mentioned were how local persons grow the bambo and donate it to the zoo so as to provide for the pandas ever demand for this is their food source in particular.

Post 45 by Grace (I've now got the ggold prolific poster award! wahoo! well done to me!) on Saturday, 04-Jun-2005 15:17:18

...I am sorry, the number above should have been quoted as 1500 ... I think?? .... sorry for not hearing it right...
